PARKING FOR THE HIGH HOLY DAYS As everybody knows, large numbers of congregants attend the many celebrations and services we offer throughout the High Holy Days. It's important, therefore, to observe local traffic laws regarding parking outside the temple grounds.
1) Parking is available at St. Joseph of Arimathea Church (9A and Worthington Road) and you are highly encouraged to park there.
2) Parking is permitted on Worthington Road between Dobbs Ferry and Whitehouse Roads on the left side of the street as you approach the Temple from Dobbs Ferry Road. Cars should be facing Dobbs Ferry Road. Please note: Parking is not available on the street directly in front of the temple.
3) Except for Whitehouse Road, parking is available on other streets (Don Lane, Biltom Road and Drake Road) in the temple neighborhood. On Don Lane, parking is permitted on one side only. Please observe all signs and do not block any intersections or driveways.
4) Special note about handicapped parking: There will be parking spaces close to the Tent for those cars that have legitimate state or county handicapped parking license plates or permits. Thank you for complying with these instructions. The High Holy Days are a wonderful time for us; let’s do what we can to be wonderful neighbors, as well.

TENTS OF HOPE Join us on a journey of hope and compassion as we join other communities throughout the U.S. in designing and painting simulated refugee tents to create awareness and support for the people of Darfur, Sudan. It is our hope that these tents will serve as doorways to concrete action; it is our hope that these tents will help lead to the advocacy necessary to stop the genocide in Darfur. WoodlandsCommunityTemple and DobbsFerryLutheranChurch have joined together to design and decorate one tent. We know that as this Tent of Hope moves back and forth between our two homes, it will demonstrate our shared faith that by working together we can make a better world. We invite you and your family and friends to join in this project by painting a square on the tent. Painting at WCT will take place on Sunday, October 12, the day of WCT's "Tent Sale." Plan out your design before painting and use language and symbols respectfully. Reserve your time by clicking the button on our website and making a minimum donation of $18 per square. (If you can't come on October 12, you may decorate earlier. Email WCTSocialAction@WCT.org for an appointment.) Money raised above the cost of the tent project will be divided equally among 3 projects that will bring hope and help to the people of Darfur: *Solar Cooker Project *American Jewish World Service Darfur program *Lutheran World Relief Darfur program
REQUEST FOR FOOD VAN DONATIONS:““Help Us Deliver Food! Thanks to the generosity of Woodlands members and their guests, we deliver a truck full of food annually to local food pantries at the High Holidays. We need your help getting the food to these pantries. The Woodlands High Holidays Food Van costs us over $300 each year. Please consider donating what you can to help us cover the cost of this truck this year. Please go to the Woodlands web site to donate, or contact the High Holidays Food Van coordinator, Sandi Lieb-Geiger, at sandi.LG@gmail.com or 674-9377. Thank you!” All money collect above the cost of the truck and gas will then be donated to the Food Pantry.
We are also looking for donations of boxes to help transport the food. Volunteers are also needed to help man the truck Oct. 8 & 9 during Yom Kippor for a half hour or an hour at a time. On Friday, Oct. 10, volunteers are needed to deliver the food to the various o rganizations we help support. The deliveries will be made starting at 9:00 AM; heavy lifting is involved, and children are welcome (some schools are closed for the Columbus Day holiday). If you can volunteer your time for any or all please contact Sandi Lieb-Geiger at sandi.LG@gmail.com or 674-9377.
DARFUR: : ACT TO END GENOCIDE: Each week, you can do one small act to end genocide in Darfur. Click “Act to End Genocide” button on Woodlands’ front page. A new action each Monday.
VOTER REGISTRATION:One of the most important rights we have as Americans is the right to vote - all the more so because it has been ours so rarely in Jewish history. If you are not registered, please do so. If you have moved or changed your name since you last voted or if you have not voted in the last four years, you must register. Download a form at http://www.westchestergov.com/BOE/voteform.pdf. And, please encourage your children age 18 and above to register and vote.

If you would like to join the Environmental Task Force, please email Environment@wct.org.
TERRACYCLE: Woodlands is teaming up with Terracycle in their Yogurt Brigade to try to eliminate some of our waste. We are collecting clean (please run through the dishwasher) #5 plastic 6-oz and 32-oz yogurt containers with wide mouth such as Stonyfield Farm, Brown Cow and Dannon (no Yoplait, not the right shape container). Please bring in your clean empty containers and leave them in the box next to the Food of the Month wagon as you walk in the door.
NEXT ENVIRONMENTAL TASK FORCE MEETING:Monday, October 6th, 8:10 PM
CSA AT WOODLANDS:Check out the Social Action page on the WCT website for information about what a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is and how it works.Information about how you can sign up for the 2009 growing season will be distributed shortly. GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK - Use a revolving door instead of a traditional swing door to conserve energy. The revolving door stops conditioned air (cool air in the summer and warm air in the winter) from moving freely. Using a swing door allows air to rush out of the opening. However, a revolving door is never open as its seals remain in contact with the walls of the door at all times. Next time you enter a building, take a look, if there's a choice opt to use the revolving doors.
CHESED PROJECTS
The Chesed Caring Community Committee invites WCT members to join us. We seek new ideas and concepts on how we can better serve the congregation. Call our chair, Arthur Pell 949-1382 or email him at Chesed@wct.org.
WCT-NET [Chesed Caring Community If you're worried about losing your job... If you've recently been laid-off... Or, if you just want some help to kick-off a job search...
One of the most effective means of locating a job is through networking. WCT-NET is a way to join a network of people you know or may have met in WoodlandsCommunityTemple as well as friends/colleagues from other faith based organization in lower Westchester.
WCT-NET is being re-formed as a bi-weekly informal group of Temple members and our friends who are coming together to reach out and help each other to work through these difficult times. Our purpose is to network amongst ourselves and to share our contacts and information across all industries in order to facilitate and minimize the search time; and thereby assist each other in achieving the next step in our careers. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact Ken Dubensky via email (Kdubensky@gmail.com) or 914-693-3660.
Next meeting is October16 at 8:00 pm in the Youth Lounge
