Dear friends,

It's so important for us to train our hearts to respond when another calls out in pain.  Both for family and for stranger, our ancestors have always tried to lend a helping hand.

The disaster in Haiti is vast, and their ability to care for their own has been heart-wrenchingly diminished.  The 900 synagogues of the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) are participating together in providing aid.  I know that times are difficult.  I also know that we have turned to you often in recent months to give.  But what else can we do?

I hope you will join me, and your temple leadership, in making a meaningful donation to the URJ Haiti Relief Fund.  We can all do so online at http://urj.org/socialaction/issues/relief.

Time is short.  The need is great.  Let us pray for the well-being of our brothers and sisters in Haiti.  And together, let us turn our prayers into effective action.

There is an organization founded by Hastings on Hudson resident Danielle Butin that is very dedicated, doesn’t spend lots of money on administration and has worked with the Haitian people in the past—supplying hospitals in Haiti with medical supplies. The following e mail was received from Danielle. If you would like to help you can drop off  the following items at the Afya Warehouse at 510 Nepperhan Ave, Yonkers 10701 or contact them to volunteer to help sort items.  PLEASE DO NOT DROP ANY ITEMS OFF AT TEMPLE AS WE ARE NOT COLLECTING.  ALL ITEMS MUST BE TAKEN DIRECTLY TO YONKERS.

Clothes need to be sorted and boxed by size, supplies must be organized carefully to minimize additional work for clinicians receiving the goods in Haiti. Please email sarah.schuyler@afyafoundation.org to set up times to come in to help.
