Sat, Jan 11 at 4:30 pm:  Night Games: And Other Stories and Novellas, by Arthur Schnitzler, John Simon, Margret Schaefer (Translator)  Facilitated by Cantor Jonathan

This collection of short works include translations of nine of Arthur Schnitzler's most important stories and novellas, including "Dream Story," on which Stanley Kubrick based his widely acclaimed film "Eyes Wide Shut." Schnitzler creates memorable characters and stories that are comic, tragic, powerful, and psychologically compelling tales of love, sex, and death that often surprise. They are as fresh and relevant to us today, a century later, as when they were first written. A light snack and Havdalah will follow.

At our first meeting on October 26, Cantor Jonathan will facilitate a discussion of by Nathan Englander, a streamlined comic masterpiece about a son's failure to say Kaddish for his father to the horror and dismay of his sister. To appease her, Larry hatches an ingenious if cynical plan, hiring a stranger through a website called to recite the prayer and shepherd his father's soul safely to rest. Followed by a light snack, and Havdalah of course!
